Being Present, Reading More, + 7 Books To Read this Winter

Lately I've been reminded of the importance of choosing people and experiences over stuff.  If you've been keeping up on my instagram you're probably sick of hearing about how excited for 2017 I am. If that's the case, I get it. The reason I'm so excited about 2017 though isn't because I have a bagillion and a half goals, but rather because I am finally giving myself grace to reach for the stars and be completely okay if things don't land exactly where I anticipated.

One of the many things I am trying do more of this year is reading. Reading has never been something I liked. To me, it's always seemed more like a chore than a thing of enjoyment. I'm not sure if it's because of my inability to sit still or the fact that 90% of the things I've ever read were textbooks. Nonetheless, this year I am trying to actually try to read books for fun. I'm also a super slow reader, so in order to actually read I must slow myself down from my normal go-go-go instinct.

In doing so, my hope it to be more present. Far too often I find my brain drifting and dreaming, which is fun, but I want to embrace the here and now and not always be longing for the future or constantly be on the go.

Here are seven books that I am planning to read this Winter. If reading more is a thing you're looking for in 2017, I would love for you to join me and this list is a great place to start.

1. A Million Miles In A Thousand years by Donald Miller

2. Yes, Please by Amy Pohler

3. Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs

4. The Travelers Gift by Andy Andrews

5. Super You by Emily Gordon

6. Leaper by Geoffrey Wood

7. It Was Me All Along by Andie Mitchell
